You guys. Its a good thing there are some things too obscure for tumblr, because had I found more people talking about Tom Sellers and Adam Simmonds and how absolutely adorable they were on last weeks round of the Great British Menu, I was actually going to cave and get a tumblr. Luckily there were only one or two posts old posts mentioning them. But I am kind of sad.

Because I would quite happily like to delve into an epic story about their developing friendship and how Adam repays Tom for going first with his dessert, thus saving Adam from certain elimination after his went wrong. And spends some time describing all the hugging they do and how that makes them feel in their pants. I dont think I've seen chefs in this competition hug each other that much. And manages to capture how they are both such obnoxious little shits on the outside, but have a soft squishy core really.

Seriously though. This is rivals the time I really wanted some BBC childrens presenter fic for moments when I really wish I had the capacity to write fic because I'd request these rarest of rare fics for Yuletide and hope in vain that someone else is as depraved unique as I am.

If you want to know what I'm rambling about: Go here, and watch S9 E21-25. If you like watching cooking competition shows you may also enjoy this.

Ugh. I want to do things to this song.

In other news, after resisting for so long - I feel like I'm almost on the cusp of giving in to Tumblr. It seems the tipping point of finding interesting people has been reached, so its almost worth it. Dilemma.

But not for what you're thinking. No. I listen to a lot of Radio 1, and if there is going to be 'strong language' or 'adult themes' or whatever, they always have a warning at the beginning of the show. What I realised one day is that the wording of those warnings is very sneaky.

"If you are easily offended, find another show to listen to"

It amuses me that they choose to phrase it that way. Because they have a point - the world seems to be full of people who are quick to take offense at the smallest thing. It drives me nuts. So I like to see this as the BBC subtly making a point.

hmmm

See now, I'm guilty of doing this in the past, and I'm trying to move away from it, but its strange how I constantly see people talk about Teen Wolf who start by saying 'Its such a terrible show, its the worst - but I cant stop watching it/writing fic about it!'. And I realise that in a way it might be one of those fandom-language things, but in my head its starting to feel a lot like....show shaming? The way people feel the need to pre-emptively say that a show/band/pairing is bad/terrible before they can talk about it so that they don't feel embarassed for watching a certain type of show? Its like, I'm going to hate on the show first so that when other people do it - it doesnt matter/make me look/feel bad....

I dont know. Random observation. Also badly formulated.

The point of this post is: I found someone's thoughts on S1 of Teen Wolf and she manages to say in actual words what is so great about the show. Its not perfect, but its a lot better than people give it credit for, and I really wish it would get more actual love rather than just people being embarassed and putting it down love.

Soooo this new LJ feature is somewhat disturbing.

Lots of people are saying that it was always possible to track people from their IP address, but this just makes it a lot more prominent, and apparently very specific.

I guess I'll be using a proxy a lot more...

So you know Inception has incepted you properly when you see articles like this, and ponder whether or not Eames would frequent such a place (most likely, and he'd love it) and whether Arthur could be convinced to indulge in a made-to-measure dressing gown (yes).

Spinning on his heels, Scheper-Stuke, who is 28, does a little Fred Astaire-style backward kick, then turns back around, brandishing a swath of purple and gold Italian silk. Then he jumps, with practiced agility, right up onto the sample table. “See?” he says, holding a rich, lime-green paisley up to one of the sworls in an antique wool fabric hanging behind glass on the wall. “For this print, this was the inspiration.”

Im reading fluffy Arthur/Eames fic, and watching a special Radio 1 broadcast of Mumford & Sons + Friends (live streaming here, and probably (I think) available online for a month from today).

Its not how I thought my evening would go, its not even what I thought I was in the mood for, but somehow, its perfect.

So Emmy nominations out today. Was hoping there may one for ASkars as Brad, but nothing doing. Some for technical stuff, and outstanding director for Susanna White (for Bomb in the Garden) and best miniseries (its only against one other show - whats up with that? Oh well, better chance of it winning no?) which aint bad I guess.

She says, like she knows anything at all.

Anyway. Just bringing the news.

So, objectively speaking, today has sucked lots. Lots and lots and lots. Things didnt work, and then just as Im about to get home I realise I have no keys. Fabulous. Today is a day when I feel like this icon.

And yet Im not in a bad mood.

Part of this is because I havent started stressing yet, I'm leaving that until tomorrow.

Part of it is the new Calvin Harris single which is the definition of 'uplifting chart trance'. I might have listened to it approximately 586246 times today.

So I'm rewatching Generation Kill. I am perhaps just a little bit in love with it.

Seriously - you wouldnt expect to get so excited about a bunch of marines who were first on the ground during the Iraq invasion. Especially since the show is so good, you get a sense of just how fucked up the whole thing was. And yet, in love with it I am. I think its Ray mostly. And Brad, and Nate. And probably Poke. But a lot of it is Ray, and his hilarious rants and monologues which keep you from getting to depressed about how people are stupid.

And some of it is the military thing too actually. The fact that its this whole different language, and culture and vibe thats shiny and new, I like that as well. All their little protocols and call signs. Like the procedure they go through to get air support to fire missiles. Its so interesting. Yeah, this is probably where my innate interest in...well, everything is probably a bit too much. But oh well.

So just consider this another Generation Kill pimp post. Yes, it is actually that good

Meanwhile, stuff. Snow is bad. Cold is bad. School is (ahahaha) going to be oh so bad. Umm. There have been other things. Oh right, Arsenal still being (more or less) bad. Tennis is bad. Meh. I dont know, Im sure I didnt have this much to bitch about. Once upon a time I had interesting things to say. Oh I remember. Burn Notice is back!. And I have had thoughts on Burn Notice since the beginning of season two. I should probably get them out.

You know what I wish would happen? )

But you know whats good - rugby this weekend! I have missed rugby. Gawd, the autumn internationals seem like years ago.

BBC World now in America

Cool advertising no?

Things that have amused me since getting home:

The Stray Shopping Carts of Eastern North America: A Guide to Field Identification

Exam Paper for Advanced Certificate in Time Wasting, Subject: Fandom Studies

Meanwhile, the rest of today has been quite good (got a package from my sister which equals much yay) and the weather is nice and its supposed to be even better tomorrow.

Not talking about the football (Oh Arsenal, why do you torture your fans so?) or last weekends rugby (Oh Hurricanes, how can you play so badly?) because well, its all over.

In the meantime, I want to eat something really unhealthy. Unfortunately our house doesnt have anything really unhealthy, so I think I'll go make a toastie or something. With olives. Mmm, olives.

yay

Im in a good mood this morning. This has been helped by:

-Pictures of Arsenal with the Queen. Mad glee. Lehman drinking tea and various other people drinking tea and looking completely out of their element is ♥

-Super 14! Yay for rugby. Am looking forward to seeing the 'Canes against the Blues. Luke McAlister + Ma'a Nonu = Yay. Why is NZ rugby so much more interesting than...anything else really?

-Some lovely person uploaded scans of pretty much all the Sandman comic books & specials and other interesting things and now that sendspace isnt being a bitch I can finally download them!

-Football today! I fully expect Arsenal to kick Blackburns ass.

-The nice weather we've been having. I love the sun. It doesnt matter that its not actually warm, but blue skies and sunny weather are ♥

-The Knife: I am so obsessed with Silent Shout right now, its not even funny. I dont think I've listened to anything else for the last 2 weeks. I <3 random moody dark Swedish electro-pop.

-65daysofstatic - The Destruction Of Small Ideas - 30/04/07 !!!!

-Friday Night Lights was great (if a little scary at the end, what with the evil cops and all).

-And Supernatural was pretty damn funny.

The Sartorialist is one of the few blogs I try to read because its always interesting to me to see what fashion is to him. Anyway, he posted this which I thought was an intersting question because I've been thinking about perfumes lately (and how I'm sorely lacking a good one), and reading the comments was so interesting. Made me want to go out and try some of what they recommend.

So anyway, that lead to:
I Hate Perfume
Bois de Jasmin
Jo Malone

So now all I want to do is smell nice perfumes. And make my own.

PS: The Best of 2006 list plus links to lots of other related blogs from Bois de Jasmin.
